Suicides among police personnel a cause for concern, says Siddaramaiah

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday said there is a need for change in the training imparted to police personnel.

BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday said there is a need for change in the training imparted to police personnel.

Addressing police personnel at an investiture ceremony at Raj Bhavan, he said, “We have to strengthen the intelligence wing to prevent any untoward incidents. To prevent crime, police should develop skills to analyse the possible outcomes of any incident,” he said.

The CM’s statement came in the wake of complaints against the police intelligence wing for its failure to foresee possible violence during the recent Cauvery protests.

“The rising number of suicides among police personnel in the state remains a cause for concern.

Policemen should not resort to such acts. We are also aware that most of them have no private life as they are working round the clock,” he said.  He said that government will not tolerate any indiscipline and all police personnel should be more people-friendly.

Governor Vajubhai Vala presented the President’s police medals for gallantry, distinguished and meritorious service to 66 officers and personnel at the ceremony. Home minister G Parameshwara, DG&IG Om Prakash were also present.
