Kulai PU College lecturer held for sexual assault

A lecturer from a private PU college in Kulai, who was accused of sexually assaulting and transmitting an STD to a minor boy.

MANGALURU: A lecturer from a private PU college in Kulai, who was accused of sexually assaulting and transmitting an STD to a minor boy, was arrested by the Suratkal police on Friday.

The accused has been identified as Chemistry lecturer Prithviraj. 

Suratkal police told Express that the accused ran a tuition centre called ‘Akshara,’ in Hosabettu.

The 17-year-old victim, studying in PUC I near here, was attending the coaching centre.

Suratkal police said the victim decided to lodge a complaint against the lecturer after discovering that he was infected with a STD.

Sources in the college said Prithviraj was separated from his wife a few years back  and had been serving in the college since 2014.

“No parent or student had filed any complaint regarding sexual offences against Prithviraj to the college management,” sources added.

Suratkal police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO)

Act 2012.
