BENGALURU: The green-yellow autorickshaw will be the symbol of actor-turned-politician Upendra’s party Karnataka Prajnavantha Janata Paksha. The symbol was approved by the Election Commission of India.
According to sources, Uppi, as the actor is popularly known, is a fan of late actor Shankar Nag whose blockbuster film was titled ‘Auto Raja’. A source said, “In the film, Shankar Nag is fondly called ‘Auto Raja’ as he is a do-gooder. We therefore asked for autorickshaw as our symbol.”
The actor had announced his plans to start his own party in August and later announced the name in October. He had even worn a khaki shirt representing the labour class. According to him, a political leader is neither a servant nor a king. He is a labourer. Upendra plans to field candidates from all the 224 Assembly constituencies in the coming election.
