Tranquilized jumbo flees in Hassan

HASSAN: The forest officials were kept on their toes when a 40-year-old tusker escaped despite being tranquilized twice near Chikkakallur forest area in Sakleshpur taluk on Monday.

The elephant didn’t fall down even an hour after being tranquilized by a shooter from a distance of 30 yards. The jumbo started running amok for 2 km after the procedure and became calm only after drinking water from a tank in the forest. The team of forest officials who went to capture the elephant have suspended the operation.

Forest guards have being deployed to keep an eye on the elephant.DCF Manjunath said the team had returned when the elephant didn’t fall after being tranqualized twice. The operation will resume on Thursday as the doctors went to Bengaluru to bring medicines for tranquilizing.
