HAVERI:A newborn baby abandoned by mother was found in a drain in ward no 23 of Haveri town on Wednesday. The baby was rescued from dogs and pigs by a woman who was walking on the road. The woman later admitted the baby to the district hospital in Haveri.
Shemshadbi heard cries of the baby near a drain. She took the baby home, washed and brought it to the district hospital for treatment.District Child Protection unit officials visited the district hospital later.
Shemshadbi urged District Child Protection officials in the district hospital to hand over the baby to her. But officials refused her request and said they will take action as per the law. A case has been registered in Haveri police station.
