BENGALURU: The Congress party’s opposition to EVMs is illogical and amateurish, said former minister and BJP spokesperson Suresh Kumar.
Reacting to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s demand for reintroduction of ballot papers, the BJP leader said by opposing EVMs, Congress has conceded defeat even before the announcement of the electoral battle. The CM had stated that he will write to the Election Commission demanding reintroduction of ballot papers as there are doubts about the EVMs.
Terming the chief minister’s statement as childish, the BJP leader said, “The only purpose of introducing EVMs was to ensure free, fair and tamper-proof elections which are the bedrock of any successful democracy. By seeking to revert to ballot paper system, the Congress wants to return of anarchy, chaos and unfair practices in polls.’’
The Congress won the 2013 elections through EVMs. “How does the Congress explains this phenomenon? The ruling party has started smelling defeat in 2018 Assembly polls,’’ he added.
