BELAGAVI: A police constable who fell into a well while trying to chase molesters survived the whole night in it before being rescued on Wednesday.

Raju Kerimani attached to Kakati police station, who suffered injuries in the incident, was recovering at a private hospital, sources said on Thursday.

According to the sources, while he was returning home from his duty around 9 pm on Tuesday, Kerimani heard a girl screaming for help from a car parked on the side of the highway.

When he rushed to the car, four youths pushed him and started running into the field adjacent to the highway. Kerimani gave them a chase in the darkness and accidentally fell into the well located in the field.

Kerimani survived the 20 feet fall with a broken leg as the well had only 4 feet of water.  He remained in the well all night as no one was there to help him out. The farmers reached the field in the morning, heard Kerimani’s shouts for help. They immediately informed the police and fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and rescued him. Kerimani has been admitted to a private hospital and is said to be recovering well.
