Miscreants assault Sene leader in Kalaburagi, no arrests yet

Tension prevailed in Kalaburagi after miscreants trespassed into the house of Sri Rama Sene leader Sharanappa and assaulted him.

KALABURAGI: Tension prevailed in Jewargi town of Kalaburagi after miscreants of a particular community trespassed into the house of Sri Rama Sene leader Sharanappa on Saturday and assaulted him and women in the house.

Police resorted to lathi charge to quell the mob. Three persons who sustained injuries were admitted to a hospital.

According to sources, on February 17, a complaint had been lodged in Jewargi police station over a post on Facebook by one Nagaraj, allegedly insulting sentiments of the community.

The Facebook user had also tagged ‘Sri Rama Sena Huli’ in the text that he had posted on his wall.
After seeing the post on Facebook, over 2,000 people of the community gathered and staged a protest in Jewargi. This led to shops and business establishments shutting doors on Friday evening.

On Saturday, a few miscreants rushed to Sharanappa’s residence and manhandled him and women in the house. So far, no arrests have been made. Police sources said that as the situation is tense, they did not arrest anyone.
