FIR against school for undressing, shaming child

A police complaint of corporal punishment filed by a parent against a school in East Bengaluru has now turned into a case under Pocso Act.

BENGALURU: A police complaint of corporal punishment filed by a parent against a school in East Bengaluru has now turned into a case under Pocso Act.
Ulsoor police registered the case under Pocso Act and filed an FIR on Friday.
On February 10, the parent of a five year-old girl had raised her voice against the school through social media for allegedly beating her daughter and other children and also undressing and shaming them.

Based on the post on social media, the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights filed a suo motu case, issued summons to the school and also ordered an inquiry.
The 33-year-old parent mentioned in her post that the class teacher of her daughter at Eastwood High School in Ulsoor allegedly beat up children. “It all started with physical punishment for my daughter who is studying in nursery. Each morning started with her crying and requesting me not to send her to school. ...later when I asked her the reason, she told that her class teacher used to beat her regularly. I even met and requested the class teacher not to beat her as well other children.”

Principal justifies action
The principal too justified saying that action, saying there was no other way to instill discipline. The parent alleged that the children were also shamed in class by undressing them and making them stand before the board.
“The children were also threatened and told they would be taken to a dark room where a dog would attack their private parts,” she said in her complaint.
A case under Pocso Act has been registered against the class teacher and principal.
