CT and MRI scan charges set to come down by up to 40 per cent

BENGALURU:  There is some relief for citizens on the medical front. From March 1, there will be uniform pricing at most diagnostic centres in the city.

This move will bring down the cost of some procedures like CT and MRI scans by at least 40 per cent. The decision came after a meeting of the Association of Diagnostic Centres, Bengaluru. Dr Umashankar, treasurer of the association, told Express that the aim is to bring about uniformity in charges of services.

Currently, the prices at diagnostic centres vary from one centre to another. While some charge `3,000 to ` 4,000 for CT and MRI scan, there are centres that take up to `6,000.

From March 1, these prices will be the same in at least 30 centres in the city. “This is for the first time we have come together and decided to form an association through which we can fix the price,” said Umashankar.

According to association members, after the November 8 demonetisation announcement, diagnostic centres in the city as well as the public were most affected. The association has also assured that there will no revision of prices for the next one year.
