Dissension in Congress over agenda

The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) will hold a coordination committee meeting on Sunday morning, amid dissension over the agenda of the meeting.

BENGALURU: The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) will hold a coordination committee meeting on Sunday morning, amid dissension over the agenda of the meeting.

While the meeting has been convened about discussing future strategies leading up to winning the Assembly elections next year, speculation is  rife that the party might consider enrolling some ministers who have been serving for the last four years to work for the party.

KPCC president G Parameshwara said it was a practice of the Congress to enrol senior leaders for this work during elections, but the ultimate decision rested with the Chief Minister. Parameshwara also said that the agenda would be set after Digvijaya Singh had a discussion. Singh who arrived late in the evening was closeted in a meeting with Siddaramaiah on Saturday night.

CM Siddaramaiah himself is said to be unhappy about a decision to drop ministers and some ministers are supposed to have conveyed their anger about this decision to enlist them for party work exclusively. Eyebrows were also raised over the 40-minute wait by Parameshwara to meet the CM at his residence on Saturday.

KPCC working president Dinesh Gundu Rao denied any agenda being set where dropping ministers and enlisting them for party work would be discussed. Parameshwara is the only leader who holds a post as a minister and KPCC President.
