BENGALURU: Karnataka’s exports saw a 15 per cent growth in the past three months, said Bengaluru Chief Commissioner of Customs Rajeev Bhushan Tiwari here at a press meet on Monday.
“We are seeing export growth of 15 per cent to 20 per cent in Karnataka which is much better than where we started. In the initial months we had negative growth. It is only during the last three to four months that this has picked up. Till October/November it was one or two per cent growth. Before that it was negative. Exports have increased from Rs 72,793 crore to Rs 82,026 crore up to January this year compared to last year,” he said.
Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry president M C Dinesh, said, “During the Cauvery riots in September last year, exports were hit.”
“A survey done at the state’s two international airports by Acharya Institute of Management revealed that 87 per cent international passengers were happy with their experience with the customs. For example, Karnataka is a pioneer in software export and now the focus is shifting to export of services,” said Tiwari.
Customs experience is based on accessibility of information and hence the department has launched an app in Mangaluru last week, he said.
With GST to roll out shortly, customs law will remain unaltered, clarified Tiwari.
