BENGALURU: The long wait for Cauvery water for residents of Anekal and Suryanagar will end soon as the State cabinet on Wednesday approved a grant of Rs 68.55 crore for the project.

The project involves drawing 30 million litres per day (MLD) of water from the already allocated share of Karnataka’s Cauvery water for drinking purpose. Pipe-laying and other works of the project would be completed in 24 months and Rs 167crore was granted for the project.

Freedom for 188 convicts

This Republic Day (Jan 26) could herald a new beginning for 188 life-term convicts, who have been recommended for release. The cabinet approved the list of convicts to be freed and it would be sent for Governor’s assent, Jayachandra said.

The beneficiaries for release have been selected based on their good conduct, age and health. Among the convicts selected for freedom, eight are women. In a similar gesture, the State government had released 284 convicts on the eve of Independence Day in 2016.
