BENGALURU: A member of the banned separatist organisation National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbjit faction) was arrested in Tamil Nadu, based on information provided by Military Intelligence Unit, Bengaluru. The arrests were made in a joint operation of the unit and Tamil Nadu police.

The arrested is Uppan Basumatary alia Jathi (35)  who hails from Sonitpur district, Assam. He was a cadre of the 35th batch who had undergone training in Myanmar in 2013 and was an active section commander in Tezpur and Kokrajhar districts. Before he was arrested at Sulur in Coimbatore district on Thursday, he was employed as a labourer in Shanti Feeds Private Limited Company, since March 2015. Police have also arrested one more person, identified as Vikram Basumatary (27), a native of Assam, for providing shelter to Uppan.

In a release the Defence Wing of Press Information Bureau added that southern states have become a safe haven for cadres of a number of North Eastern militant outfits.
