CHIKKAMAGALURU:Normal life has been affected by heavy downpour in Chikkamagaluru and other Malnad taluks since Tuesday.Three houses were damaged in Bannur GP limits of Balehonnur after a tree uprooted and fell over them. However, no causalities were reported.

Manjula, a nurse in the Vaikuntapura health centre in Sringeri taluk, sustained head injuries after a big jackfruit came down crashing on her residential quarters.
Power supply was completely cut in some parts of Mudigere, Koppa, Sringeri and NR Pura taluks with uprooted trees damaging power lines.

River Hemavathy was overflowing near Uggehally in Mudigere taluk and water is spilling into paddy fields. Bhadra and Tunga rivers were also in spate near Sringeri and Kalasa. Some paddy nurseries were submerged on the banks of the rivers.

Due to heavy rains, DDPI Basavarajappa on the directions of DC G Satyavathy, declared  a holiday for schools in four Malnad taluks on Thursday.
Rain has triggered farming activities in the district. Near Sringeri, motorists were seen driving their vehicles on flooded roads. The inflow into the Bhadra reservoir was 18,092 cusecs and the outflow 153 cusecs.
