HUBBALLI: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that there was no role of the state government behind the demand for separate religion status for Lingayats. He told reporters that some Lingayats were in favour and some were against the separate religion status. The government would consider views of both the sides and the legal and constitutional cognizance would be taken by the Ministry of Law. He also refuted media reports on the government forming a team of five Lingayat ministers to gather opinion among the community.

Reacting to political developments in Bihar, Siddaramaiah dubbed JD(U) supremo Nitish Kumar an “opportunistic” and accused him of betraying mandate of people.
Ruling out possibility of the Congress aligning with any party in the upcoming election, he said the party was strong enough to form the next government.
