Karnataka: Hubballi man arrested for attempt to rape child

The accused, a 56-year-old man known to the girl, kidnapped her when she was with her parents at the ESI Hospital in Hubballi.

HUBALLI: A five-year-old girl was sexually harassed by a drunken man in Karnataka on Monday night, local police said. 

The incident happened Monday night in the deserted quarters of the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation (KPTC) office on Karwar Road in Hubballi.

The accused, a 56-year-old man known to the girl, kidnapped her when she was with her parents at the ESI Hospital in Hubballi.

He took her to the KPTC quarters and tried to rape her. When the girl started screaming, the acused Nagappa Pujar tried to slit her throat and fled the spot.

Local residents heard the girl's scream and rushed her to KIMS Hospital.

Meanwhile, her parents approached the Old Hubballi police and filed a complaint.

Police arrested the accused, a resident of Banjara Colony, on Tuesday, and have booked him under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The girl is recovering in hospital.
