SCs, STs to get BDA flats at a discount

Faced with the problem of disposing off BDA flats which have found no takers in the city, the Siddaramaiah government has decided to offer them at a huge discount to the weaker sections of the society

BENGALURU: Faced with the problem of disposing off BDA flats which have found no takers in the city, the Siddaramaiah government has decided to offer them at a huge discount to the weaker sections of the society.

These 1-BHK flats are being offered with a discount of 44% discount to SC/ST communities while at a discount of 25% to the economically weaker sections. The move is being seen as one more initiative of the Siddaramaiah government to consolidate its AHINDA voter base.
“We are offering a discount of 25% for economically weaker sections and 44% for SC/ST communities, as the response for the sale has not been encouraging from the weaker sections,” said Bengaluru

Development Minister K J George, while replying to K M Shivalinge Gowda of JD(S) in the legislative assembly on Tuesday.
Presently BDA’s 1-BHK flats are sold at `12 lakh to economically-weaker sections and at `7 lakh to SC/ST communities.
The minister also assured that the state government would come out with a programme for providing housing to those belonging to the weaker sections who lost their houses during eviction drives conducted in unauthorised layouts in Bengaluru and other cities.

BDA and the Housing Department are drawing up plans to build housing complexes exclusively for the economically weaker sections and SC/ST communities in and around Bengaluru on land recovered through encroachment clearance drives, George said.
