MADIKERI : A college girl was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Nellikadu estate near Ponnampet on Friday. Safana Musthafa (19) was going to college with her brother on a scooter when the incident happened. She was pursuing BCom from Cauvery Women’s College, Gonikoppa.
Her brother Zakir escaped with minor injuries.
The incident triggered protests by villagers of Devarapura and surrounding areas.
They urged the officials to immediately capture the killer tusker and take concrete steps to curb wild elephant menace.
Virajpet DCF Dr Shankar rushed to the spot and pacified the villagers.
He told Express that a compensation cheque of `2 lakh was handed over to the family of the victim.
