Bomb Naga, sons held in Tamil Nadu after 25-km car chase

Apart from Nagaraj,  his sons Gandhi and Shastri were also arrested from Arcot in Tamil Nadu.

BENGALURU:After evading the police for almost a month, former corporator Nagaraj alias Bomb Naga’s run ended on Thursday.A special team of Bengaluru police arrested him in Arcot, Tamil Nadu, after a 25km car chase. Apart from Nagaraj, his sons Gandhi and Shastri too have been nabbed.

Announcing the arrest, police said that Naga was arrested from Arcot, where he was hiding with his sons for the past few days.

A special team of Bengaluru police were after Nagaraj since April 14. The rowdysheeter was absconding after `14.8 crore in demonetised currency was found in his house. He was arrested following a tip-off that he was in a hideout in Arcot.

Police kept vigil outside the hideout, but Nagaraj and his sons tried to give them the slip in a Maruti Omni van. It was after a 25-km chase that the cops finally nabbed the trio.

Confirming the arrest, Additional Commissioner of Police (East) Hemant Nimbalkar said Nagaraj and his sons will be brought to Bengaluru in the early hours of Friday.


Nagaraj’s house was raided on April 14 following a complaint by one Umesh who alleged that he had been abducted and taken to the former’s house and later released on payment of `50 lakh ransom.  Nagaraj went missing during the raid. While in hiding, he released two CDs alleging that the case against him was politically motivated. He alleged that a few IPS officers were involved in the demonetised currency exchange racket.

Nagaraj’s pleas for anticipatory bail too were rejected by the local courts. Police said he was booked in 47 criminal cases and 13 security cases. There are seven cases each registered against his sons too.
