MANGALURU: While Thursday night’s sensational heist of `7.5 crore, apparently by four staffers  of a cash logistics firm, remains a mystery, it has emerged that the GPS fitted to the van was disabled. But it is not clear when exactly it was disabled.
The police who took the abandoned cash transporting vehicle into their custody near Hunsur, noticed the tracks of another vehicle purportedly parked near the spot, according to sources. It is possible that there was a getaway vehicle waiting for the robbers, the sources said on Saturday.

However, the guns which the gunmen escorting the cash transportation vehicle had, have not been found. The police feel that they could be the last line of defence for the robbers if they were caught in a tight situation. The local police have alerted Kasargod police in Kerala and given them the photographs of the van crew.
Commissioner of Mangaluru Police M Chandra Sekhar told Express that three teams are working in different places. “I cannot say anything more than this”, he said.
Logistics company SIS Prosegur Holdings was transporting the cash for Axis Bank from Mangaluru to Bengaluru.

According to a person who handles cash transportation in another company, the rear portion of a cash ferrying vehicle resembles the strongroom of a bank. There will be a dual key operation and a combination lock which are difficult to break.
Axis Bank spokesman Manoj Kumar said, “Our cash transfer system is robust and fully compliant with regulations... The amount being transferred was fully insured. Neither the van in question nor its crew belong to the bank. The matter is being investigated by the police and we are committed to providing whatever assistance is required,” he said.
