BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah hit back at his detractors in the Congress saying that none of the state party leaders were responsible for him joining the party in 2006.

At a press meet on Friday, Siddaramaiah said, “I had met Ahmed Patel (aide to AICC chief Sonia Gandhi) who took me to meet Sonia Gandhi. She told me that both of us were fighting communal forces and we had to fight together. It is only after the meeting that I decided to join Congress,” he said.

He added, “When I left JD(S), I formed All-India Progressive Janata Dal, but it was not working out very well. At that time I met Patel and later Sonia Gandhi. After deciding to join Congress, I met S M Krishna, who was then Governor of Maharashtra to enlist his support. That was all. No one in state Congress called me to join the party.”
