BENGALURU: The selection of a new vice-chancellor for the University of Mysore (UoM) will be delayed with the cancellation of a meeting of the search committee scheduled to be held in New Delhi on Monday.

The meeting was cancelled following direction from Governor Vajubhai Vala to the Higher Education Department “not to hold the meeting in Delhi”, a senior official said.No new date has been finalised for the meeting.

In an unprecedented move, the search committee had decided to shift the venue of its second meeting to the national capital from Bengaluru as UoM nominee Prof Hari Goutham had expressed his inability to travel to Bengaluru.

Meanwhile, Hari Goutham said he cannot attend the next meeting after May 22 as he will go abroad, the official said. At its first meeting, the committee headed by former Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) vice-chancellor H P Kincha had short-listed 12 candidates out of 300 for the post. The committee has to trim the list further to three candidates.
