BELAGAVI: Market police have registered a case against Belagavi Rural MLA Sanjay Patil for delivering a provocative speech opposing Tipu Jayanti, during which he allegedly used un-parliamentary language against CM Siddaramaiah, in Belagavi on Wednesday.

Police registered a case against Patil under sections 153 (A), 143, 149, 188, 283 and 289 IPC. Patil had criticised Chief Minister (CM) while taking part in a rally organised by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), protesting the celebration of Tipu Sultan Jayanti, in Belagavi, on Tuesday. He questioned CM if he was born in Mysuru or Lahore in Pakistan. Responding to the same, president of State Congress Women’s Cell Laxmi Hebbalkar demanded  immediate arrest of Patil.  Market police also registered case against VHP leader Swaroop Kalkundrikar.
