BENGALURU: In another effort to revive airline services from Mysuru Airport in Mandakalli, the Mysuru-Chennai-Kochi route was announced on Wednesday. This will be among the two new airline operations announced in the state.
The other one being Hyderabad-Ballari-Hyderabad route, which is scheduled to be launched on Thursday. These are under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme of the Narendra Modi government.
Large and Medium Industries Minister R V Deshpande said the new routes will enhance the all-round development of the state. The services will boost industry, tourism, transportation, trade and commerce sectors, as affordable air services are being provided to the two cities, Deshpande stated in a release.
Regional connectivity
The two routes from two airports in the state have been launched under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS). “Under RCS, in the first round of bidding for airline operators, four airports - Mysuru, Bidar, Bengaluru and Ballari - have been selected. For the development of these airports and for the commencement of airline operations, our government is providing complete cooperation and support,” Deshpande said.
A sum of Rs 89.29 crore has been provided in the annual plan 2017-18 for airport related works under the Infrastructure Development Department. Action is also being taken for the development of airstrips at Chikkamagaluru, Madikeri and Karwar.
