Chief Election Commissioner in state to review poll preparations

BENGALURU:Chief Election Commissioner Om Prakash Rawat began a three-day visit to the state to review preparations for elections and oversaw an awareness drive for voters.Rawat was accompanied by Election Commissioners Sunil Arora and Ashok Lavasa. He launched posters and documentaries on various topics to spread awareness.

He announced the installation of 450 sakhi/pink polling stations for women in the state, which will have all-women staff. The Commissioner said special facilities had been arranged for the physically challenged to reach polling stations, and also released a book in Braille script for the visually challenged. Polling stations would also be set up in tribal areas, he added, and released a documentary on the voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT).

Senior JD(S) leaders have filed a complaint with Rawat here on Wednesday, alleging that both Congress and BJP have violated the model code of conduct for elections.
