BENGALURU: Defending the ticket selection process after the party was hit by dissidence, State Congress president G Parameshwara said they had sought views from district units and also state leaders before forwarding the names to the Screening Committee and Central Election Committee, which finalised the list.
“We are determined to bring the party back to power, candidates’ ability to win election was the criterion. That was the instruction given to us and we followed it. We will take everyone into confidence,” he added.

Haris will get ticket: KPCC chief

KPCC president G Paramehwara on Monday said Shantinagar MLA NA Haris will get the party ticket. His name was not in the list released by the party on Sunday night. That had triggered speculations about party denying the ticket to him fearing adverse impact on the party as his son and his associates had assaulted a youth in the city pub. His son Mohammed Nalpad is currently in judicial custody.“It was held back due to some technical reasons and will be cleared in a day or two,” he said. The party may not field a candidate in Melkote to support farmer leader K S Puttannaiah’s son Darshan, who is contesting as Swaraj India’s candidate.

Rahul to visit K’taka on April 26, 27

Congress president Rahul Gandhi will visit Karnataka for two days from April 26. KPCC president Parameshwara said Rahul Gandhi will take part in road shows and rallies in Gadag, Haveri, Uttar Kannada and Madikeri. Rahul will again visit the state on May 3 and 4 and May 7 to 9, he added.
