BENGALURU: The state government launched the Anila Bhagya scheme on Tuesday, which is expected to benefit 30 lakh families in the state. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who inaugurated the scheme said it is better than Centre’s Ujjwala scheme, which covered only a small section of the population.
Unlike Ujjwala scheme of the Centre, which was only providing LPG connections to BPL households, the state government, under Anila Bhagya scheme, was providing all tools required to cook using LPG such as cylinders, stoves and a gas lighter. The scheme is expected to cost the state exchequer R1,350 crore.
Of the 30 lakh beneficiaries under the scheme, 10 lakh beneficiaries will be covered under the first phase, he said. The scheme is being implemented jointly by food and civil supplies, social welfare, forest and labour departments.
