MANGALURU: In a strange incident, parents of a 12-year-old girl had to call fire and emergency personnel to wake up their daughter who was soundly asleep in her apartment at Bejai on Thursday.

The girl went to sleep after coming home at 4 pm. After a while the mother left home for some work. Around 5 pm, when her mother returned and knocked the door, there was no response. She called her husband, a bank employee and they together knocked at the door and tried to call the telephone in the home but in vain.

Worried, the parents then called the fire and emergency personnel. Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Shivashankar said after surveying the place, they brought the Aerial Ladder Platform (ALF) to reach the fourth floor of the apartment building.

“We tried to enter the flat through the fifth and sixth platform. When that was not possible, we decided to go for ALF. Luckily, the balcony door was open, we were then able to open the front door. After the parents entered the house, they woke up their daughter,” informed Shivashankar.

Shivashankar said the girl was perfectly alright and couldn’t respond as she was in sound sleep. He said he is happy that they were successful in their mission without causing any damage to the property. The CFO said he had used ALF during some incidents in Bengaluru to open the doors after elderly people had slipped in their bathrooms or fell unconscious.
