BENGALURU: Intelligence inputs have indicated that terrorist organisations are developing several train derailment instruments and tactics to derail trains, says a letter from a top official in the South Western Railway Zone. It has called upon all railway employees to be alert to anything unusual.

The letter signed by H M Dinesh, Chief Transportation Manager, Hubballi, billed ‘Top Secret’ and sent to Divisional Railway Managers of Hubballi, Bengaluru and Mysuru, says hazardous material that can cause maximum damage and casualty were being developed by terrorists.

In light of the threat, it called upon DRMs to sensitise field officers and staff to the threat so that any foreign object or something unusual happening on the railway track or bridges is brought to the notice of the Railway Protection Force, Government Railway Police and the local police immediately so that preventive action could be taken.A railway official said  there was no reason to panic. “These are general intelligence inputs. Only if we are issued a specific alert, then there is cause to worry.” In any case, security is tight.”
