State-wide protest if CM fails to write off crop loan in budget: B S Yeddyurappa

BENGALURU: BJP state president and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly B S Yeddyurappa on Monday said the party will launch a state-wide agitation if Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy fails to announce farm loan waiver in the budget.

Speaking to mediapersons, he said the JD (S) in its election manifesto had promised farm loan waiver within 24 hours after coming to power, but now Kumaraswamy and his father JD (S) supremo HD Deve Gowda are giving an excuse that they need to take permission from the Congress.

“Kumaraswamy should have put a condition that he would become CM only if Congress allows him to implement promises made in the manifesto. But, he was in hurry to become the CM and now he seem to be dilly-dallying,” he said.

Yeddyurappa said it was not right for the CM to seek 50% from the Centre for farm loan initiative as governments in UP  and Maharastra have waived farm loans without the Central assistance.“In the farmers meeting (on May 30) that he had convened, the CM had stated that he would waive loans within 15 days, but it has not been done even now. It has to be announced it in the budget or the BJP will launch agitation, “ he said and suggested the CM to read the JD (S) and the Congress manifestos before preparing the budget.
