RSS, BJP leaders meet to introspect party’s failure to get clear majority
BENGALURU: Senior leaders from RSS, BJP and other organisations in the Sangh Parivar on Friday held a meeting to introspect BJP’s performance during the recently-concluded assembly elections in the state and reasons for its failure to get the majority to form the government. It was the first such meeting after the election results were announced on May 15.
According to a BJP leader, Karnataka assembly elections was one of the many subjects that were discussed during the meeting. Every three months, the leadership in the state convenes such a meeting of all organisations under the Sangh Parivar to discuss their activities and to ensure proper coordination among them. State election results and preparation for 2019 Lok Sabha polls too was discussed at the meeting.
BJP state president BS Yeddyurappa, Union Minister Ananth Kumar, senior leaders R Ashok, members of the BJP state core committee and RSS leaders in the state attended the meeting at the RSS headquarters in the city.
The BJP that emerged as the single largest party with 104 seats in 224-member assembly fell short of getting the majority to form the government and miscalculation while giving party tickets was one of the reasons for that, a party leader said. Some leaders in the party were of the view that state BJP president Yeddyurappa should have been given more free hand to select candidates, sources said. Apart from the state elections, the BJP and RSS leaders also discussed strategies for 2019 Lok Sabha elections as the Congress and JD(S) have decided fight the polls together.
