DHARWAD: Here is a retired Income Tax official whose hobby is to render songs to an impromptu crowd. Every evening, he drives to a park or extension area where he sings songs for about an hour. His audience is evening walkers, children and residents who care to stop by.

Parshuram Hasalkar started singing in open places about six months back. He also lets those who are passionate about singing to try their hands with him. Sometimes his wife also joins him in the evening music sessions.

The Hasalkar couple resides at Sai Nagar in Dharwad and their children are working in foreign countries.

Hasalkar has all equipment required for a state show. He has a singing app on his laptop, a portable sound system and a mike.

“By rendering songs to impromptu crowd, I have found a way to de-stress myself,” Hasalkar told TNIE.

“I used to sing, especially, welcome songs during functions when I was working with the I-T department,” he said.

He says the present generation is under tremendous pressure due to their work culture and competitive atmosphere.

“Sometimes it’s difficult to get peace of mind even at home. Some people meditate, exercise and do yoga to distress themselves. And for me, singing is my stress buster,” he added.

“It is a nice concept and a unique hobby,” said Savitha Patil, an assistant professor of the Law College and a resident of a nearby layout.

“We go with family members every evening to listen to Hasalkar’s songs,” she added.
