BENGALURU: The state BJP on Saturday filed a complaint against Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy accusing him of violating the poll code of conduct during election campaigning in Mandya on Friday.
Kumaraswamy, according to the complaint, had assured the gathering that ‘debt-free’ certificates of farmers, who had benefitted from the loan waiver, will be issued soon after the bypolls.

The complaint was filed in Bengaluru by BJP spokesperson A H Anand and convener of election wing Dattaguru Hegde. They urged the Election Commission to direct Kumaraswamy to stay away from making any announcements that would affect the upcoming bypolls. The bypolls will be held in three Lok Sabha and two assembly constituencies on November 3.

Taking a dig at Kumaraswamy regarding the loan waiver, the complainants alleged that the state government was resorting to such election gimmicks after failing to waive farm loans announced by it in its maiden budget in July. Such remarks are now being made to “influence voters ahead of the elections, which has to be prevented by the EC,” the complaint stated.
