Mysuru-Bangalore trains get more coaches for women

MYSURU: Taking note of the increase in number of women commuters on trains, the South Western Railway (SWR), Mysuru division, has introduced exclusive coaches for women on Mysuru-Bengaluru trains. Three trains have been equipped with four coaches for women passengers only.

According to a release from the office of senior divisional commercial manager, SWR, Mysuru, S G Yathish Kumar, “While two coaches will be reserved for women on Chamundi Express (train 
number 16215/ 216), one each are at Vishamanav Express (17326/ 325) and Tipu Express (12613/ 614) totalling four coaches.”

Sources told The New Indian Express that following several complaints from commuters during the recent visit by Divisional Railway Manager Aparna Garg for inspection, it was decided to add extra coaches for women. This is in addition to the existing ladies coach located next to the engine.

Apart from working men, women also form a majority of commuters who travel towards the capital city from Mysuru during the morning hours.Most of these women are employed at garment factories in and around Bengaluru. At times, they find it difficult to jostle for space along with men, a commuter said.

Addl coaches to clear Diwali rush
Bengaluru: To clear the extra rush of passengers during Diwali, the following trains will be provided temporarily with one 3-tier Second Class Sleeper coach shortly. The Yesvantpur - Bidar - Yesvantpur Express (Train No. 16571/16572), which runs four days a week, will have the additional coach from November 1 to 15 from the Yesvantpur end and from November 2 to 16 from the Bidar end, said an official release.The Yesvantpur - Latur - Yesvantpur Tri-weekly Express (Train no. 16583/16584) will be augmented with the additional coach from November 2 to 16 from Yesvantpur and from November 3 to 17 from Latur.
