THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Malayalam period movie ‘Pazhassi Raja’ will be screened in the World Cinema category at the 14th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) to be held in the city from December 11 to 18.

The selection of films to the competition sections of IFFK ended on Friday, with 14 films finding a place in the competition section, and seven films each in Indian Cinema and Malayalam Cinema sections respectively.

In the competition section, four films from India have been selected, among which are Malayalam movies ‘Sufi Paranja Katha’ and ‘Madhyavenal’. The other two are ‘Do Paise ki Dhoop, Char aane ki Baarish’ and ‘Road to Sangam’.

‘Kerala Cafe’ directed by Ranjith, ‘Orkuka Vallapozhum’ by Sohan Lal, ‘Ramanam’ directed by M.P. Sukumaran Nair, ‘Ritu’ by Shyamaprasad, ‘Pakalnakshatrangal’ by Rajeev Nath, ‘Bhoomi Malayalam’ directed by T.V. Chandran and ‘Patham Nilayile Theevandi’ made by Joshy Mathew are the films chosen to the Malayalam Films section.

Paresh Mokashi’s ‘Harishchandrachi Factory’, Goutam Ghosh’s ‘Kaalbela’, Saeed Akhtar Mirza’s ‘Ek Tho Chance’, Sachin Kundalkar’s ‘Gandh’, ‘Vihir’ directed by Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni, ‘Sontha Ooru’ directed by Suneel Kumar Reddy and ‘Maya Bazaar’ by Joydeep Ghosh are the films in the Indian Cinema section.

The other films which have been included in the competition section other than the four Indian films are ‘Homero Manzi, Un Poeta En la Torment’ (Argentina), ‘Z’har’ (Algeria/France), ‘Izulu Lami’ (South Africa), ‘Orada’ (Turkey), ‘Jermal’ (Indonesia), ‘The Treeless Mountain’ (South Korea, USA), ‘Birzhan Sal’ (Kazakhstan).
