Log on to www.scienceuncle.blogspot.com. One of the best science blogs in Malayalam that is far from academic and a great read for not just kids, but anyone interested in science.

It may be the first time that this column has decided to keep the identity of the blogger anonymous, the same way the blog is.

There is not a hint of the blogger, his residing place or job anywhere in scienceuncle.

blogspot, but has everything exciting and enticing about science.

Well, we respect his intention to keep the attention focused on the blog. And only let you know that he is a young mind keen on science, works on computers and loves kids.

In his mail to us, Science Uncle says, “Science was a passion from my childhood days. I never missed a chance when there was something interesting to learn about science. Science is presented as a thriller in my blog. I am trying to make a re-post-mortem of whatever we have studied during the school and college days.’’ He adds, “According to me, the posts should be informative, practical and also they should serve as a stepping stone to learn science. No experiment is explained before I test it myself.’’ The menu of Science Uncle is quite interesting - puzzles in mathematics, discoveries, hobbies, science experiments, science tricks, and a lot on birds, animals, sounds and interesting titbits too. Not just that, he will teach you how to use Unicode and switch to Malayalam computing or how to write a computer program. He will tell you how a clock or watch works, how a soap removes dirt, how to make a compass and lots more.

If young friends over there want to clear doubts on science or mathematics puzzles, you can send your mails to editor@ scienceuncle.com and his blog will carry the answer.

The enormous amount of time that this blogger invests for his posts actually mesmerises us.

“Care was taken to properly explain the stuff with suitable illustrations using leading graphics software. Maybe 70 percent of my time was just utilized for illustration only. I made folders in my home computer, Notebook and the office PC with name ScienceUncle.

And there are sub-folders with corresponding topic names.

Once an idea comes on top of my head, I will soon record it in these folders as a project outline. Whatever come across also will be dumped to the respective folders. Later, they will be developed into a post after references and refinements,’’ he mails.

There is a certain discipline in selecting the subjects that he strictly abides by in his posts, perhaps the biggest element that contributes to the success of this blog.

In his own words, “If you have interests in different subjects, please make different blogs. But not all in one.’’ Right now, this man is busy planning the future of his blog.

“My aim is to develop this as a complete portal of science with lot of useful and practical pieces of information,’’ he says.
