KOLLAM:  THE Popular Front of India (PFI) took out a rally and organised public meeting in Kollam city demanding stoppage of police action against the Muslim community.Hundreds of people from various districts such as Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha took part in the rally. The Police had tightened the security measures in the city in connection with the rally. The rally started from the Ashramam Maidan and concluded at the Cantonment Maidan, where the public meeting was held.Inaugurating the public meeting, PFI state general secretary P Abdul Hameed said that even if the authorities banned the PFI, lakhs of people who rallied behind the organisation, would go ahead with their activities. Citing the experience of Abdul Nazar Madhani, he said that the PFI leaders, who were arrested during these days, were innocent.He said that the police officers, belonging to a particular community, were targeting the PFI for obvious reasons.The Christian community had joined hands with the RSS on so many occasions in tarnishing the image of the Muslim community. The media has also joined the campaign against the PFI, he said.

While the workers of the CPM and the RSS are involved in most of the criminal cases related to violence and murders, the PFI workers have not been involved in any such cases, the PFI leader said. He said that the moves against the PFI were with the objective of destroying the religious harmony existing in the State. PFI leader Moovattupuzha Ashraf Moulvi delivered the keynote address at the meeting, which was presided over by PFI state vicepresident Karamana Asharaf Moulvi.
