PIRAVOM: The Piravom boat race will be held on September 4 after a gap of fifteen years. The race will be held in the Muvattupuzha River at Piravom. It will be held in three categories:

PIRAVOM: The Piravom boat race will be held on September 4 after a gap of fifteen years. The race will be held in the Muvattupuzha River at Piravom.

It will be held in three categories: ‘Chundan’, ‘A’ grade and ‘B’ grade.  K Karunakaran memorial and M C Jacob memorial trophies will be presented to the winners and runner-up respectively.

The trophy of ‘B’ grade competition is sponsored in memorial of Uma Devi Antherjanam, former president of the panchayat and the trophy for B grade winners is sponsored by Civil Supplies Minister T M Jacob.

Union Minister K V Thomas will inaugurate the race at 2 pm. Ministers T M Jacob, K Babu, V K Ibrahimkunju and Jose K Mani MP will participate in the inaugural ceremony. Actor Lalu Alex and Padmasree award winner Dr Jose Chacko Periyappuram will be felicitated at the function, said Piravom panchayat president Sabu K Jacob.

As part of the Onam celebration, ‘atha chamayam’ procession will be held on August 31. Minister T M Jacob will inaugurate the procession at St Joseph HSS at 4 pm.
