Ignatius Kakkanadan to be laid to rest today

Veteran journalist and writer Ignatius Kakkanadan, who passed away at a private hospital here on Tuesday night, will be laid to rest at Injalavila Marthoma Church at 2.30 pm on Thursday. He was 83 and had been battling cancer for sometime.

Ignatius was the elder brother of late novelist George Varghese Kakkanadan. He started his illustrious career as a journalist with the Janayugam, the official organ of the CPI in the state.

He was also a noted translator and had translated the works of Babasaheb Ambedkar under a Kerala Bhasha Institute Project. He was an editorial board member of Janayugam and Malayalam magazine Soviet Nadu.’ 

He was one of the early office-bearers of Kollam Press Club. He had served at East German Embassy and Russian Embassy.

He is survived by wife Mariyakutty and children Romy, Anitha, Mohan, Ajayan, Savitha, Bijoy, Sanjay, Krishnan and Navan.
