Intelligence ADGP T P Senkumar on Saturday submitted a report to the Director General of Police K S Balasubramaniam on the criminal links of a section of officers in the Police Department.
In his report Senkumar has named as many as 50 officials who have links with the spirit and sand mafia.
Balasubramaniam told ‘Express’ that action would be taken against the erring officials after further verification.
“The findings in the report have to be verified before taking action. And action will be taken against the officials in accordance with the offence committed by each of them,” he said.
“Some cases will have to be referred to the government for further action,” he added.
Sources said that Senkumar had submitted a compilation of individual reports sorted district-wise and not a consolidated one. Copies of the report have also been given to range IGs.
The report gains relevance in the wake of the alleged murder attempt on Kollam City Police Commissioner by the sand mafia.
Kollam Rural SP K B Balachandran was transferred for his alleged links with the sand mafia.
The action was based on an Intelligence Report which confirmed that the rampant sand mining in the district had the backing of the official.
