In what appears to be a sharp reply to the RSS call for joint efforts against minority communalism, CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has said that the party will not let the RSS implement its communal agenda under the cover of the NSS-SNDP alliance in the state.
The CPM will defeat the RSS efforts to woo secular people and organisations in the state, he said. He was speaking after inaugurating a seminar on ‘Secularism and Kerala Society’ organised by the CPM district committee as part of the commemoration of its former leader C P Sundarayya here on Friday.
The RSS is trying to get mileage out of the alliance between the NSS and the SNDP. “It is the communal stance of the RSS that forced more minority youths to turn to the path of communalism. However, the RSS could not succeed in forming a platform here. This is because of the potential presence of the Left organisations here. We will continue our efforts to fight communalism. Also, minority communalism and majority communalism are identical. The CPM is on an uncompromising fight against these two forms of communalism,” said Pinarayi.
He unleashed an attack against the Muslim League too, saying that the Muslim League has fallen down from a communal organisation to an extremist one. “The UDF government has been providing its full-fledged support to the Muslim League for its extremism. The government failed to take stringent steps against extremism. The UDF made a favourable atmosphere for Hindu communalism to grow. Several Hindu organisations are trying to be a part of the NSS-SNDP alliance,” he said.
District secretary K J Thomas presided over the function. LDF convener Vaikom Viswan, Mahatma Gandhi University Vice-Chancellor Rajan Gurukkal, Sebastian Paul, B Iqbal, K Suresh Kurup MLA, V R Bhaskaran, V N Vasavan and M K Prabhakaran also spoke on the occasion.
