Track queen P T Usha will inaugurate the third edition of The New Indian Express Goal initiative at Kozhikode District Sports Council Stadium in Koyilandi on Sunday.
GOAL 2014, all-Kerala inter-collegiate football tournament, being organised in a two-tier format, begins with the North Zone leg featuring 12 teams. Former international goalkeeper Victor Manjilla, will be the other star presence in the inaugural function scheduled to be held at 4 pm. Koyilandi MLA K Dasan, BJP state president V Muraleedharan, Koyilandi Municipal Chairperson K Santha, Kozhikode District Collector C A Latha, North Zone ADGP Sankar Reddy and Kerala Football Association secretary Anil Kumar P, along with The New Indian Express Editorial Director Prabhu Chawla, will attend the function. MLA K Dasan will hoist the tournament flag while Usha will set the ball rolling with a penalty kick with Manjilla in the goal.
The official theme video of GOAL 2014 will also be released on the occasion. In the opening match of tourney carrying a champions’ prize money of `1.5 Lakh, Farook College, Kozhikode will meet WMO College, Muttil, Wayanad. Two-time defending champion Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur, is playing at Koyilandi.
