Thirumullavaram East Residents Association (TERA) in a press note issued here on Sunday alleged that the Corporation’s lacklustre attitude in plugging the overflowing drain on the stretch between Manjavil to Parappallikara in Thirumullavaram poses a threat to the safety and health of residents and commuters.

It was also alleged that several requests given to the Corporation have fallen on deaf ears.

People use the road of eight feet width which passes above this drain.

“For the last 25 years, the drain here has not been repaired and it is overflowing heavily now.

“There were instances when pedestrians and commuters fell into the drain as one cannot distinguish the broken slabs covering the drain from the open drain in waterlogged areas.

“The Councillor in this ward had raised this issue during the Councillors’ meeting but nothing has been done so far,” Marappattu J Ramesh, president of TERA, said.

He also said that diseases such as allergy, skin disorders, nausea had been spreading here due to this.

“The delay in repairing the drain was caused due to some issues with the contractor and a new contractor was entrusted with the work.

“Without much delay we would start repairing the drain,” Councillor of the ward Regha Unnikrishnan said.
