The special investigating team (SIT) probing the solar scam finally took actor actor Shalu Menon into custody on Friday.
The SIT which questioned Shalu at Tiruvalla last week, however, had chosen to leave the actor free. On Thursday, the Judicial First Class Magistrate, Thrissur, directed the police to register an FIR and quiz the actor on the charges of cheating and conspiracy raised by P D Joseph, a social activist. Shalu has admitted that she was present while Biju received money from Rasikh Ali. Though Shalu claimed ignorance on Biju’s fraudulent activities, she admitted that she had received monetary benefits from him. She was later taken to the Women’s Police Station, Cantonment, where she is detained before being produced at the court on Saturday.
VIP Treatment
The police which were under fire for delaying the arrest of Shalu Menon, however, gave her a VIP treatment in their custody. Though an accused in a scandal that rocked the state, Shalu was allowed to travel in her car from Changanassery to the state capital along with police officials.
Interestingly, the car had tinted glasses above the permissible limit. The cops also took care to avoid mediapersons from capturing the images of the actor which even resulted in a melee in front of ADGP office. The cameraman of a local cable TV channel was punched in the eye by a policeman while he tried to record the events.
