Court grants five-day police custody of Saritha S Nair

The First Class Magistrate Court here on Saturday granted five-day police custody of solar panel scam accused Sarita S Nair after hearing a case filed by Konni-based Sridharan Nair of Mallelil Industries.

The case is in connection with duping of `40 lakh by Saritha promising to set up a solar panel at the Kinfra Park in Palakkad.

Pathanamthitta First Class Magistrate II Mohammed Raiz granted the custody of Saritha, who was produced before the court, to the special investigation team led by Chengannur DySP Prasannakumar.

In his complaint, Sridharan Nair said  that the amount was given to her in three cheques in 2012.  However, the public prosecutor remained silent to the questions of mediapersons regarding the phone call made by an influential person in the government in this connection.  Sridharan Nair is understood to have told his friends and well-wishers that he was contacted and pressurised over phone by a top leader in the government to invest in the solar panel venture in Palakkad.  Hundreds of people gathered on the court premises at the Mini Civil Station buildings here since 10 am. On arrival of the accused at 1.10 pm, police personnel found difficulty in taking her to the magistrate court.

After the court proceedings, the SIT personnel took the accused to Ambalappuzha by 2 pm as part of the on-going investigation.
