The special combat team of the Kerala police, named Thunderbolt, would soon resemble stylish commando units that one gets to see only on the silver screen.
Members of the team would soon be spotted with hi-tech gear like masks, tactical eyeglasses, belts and knee protectors which would help the commandos carry out high-risk emergency operations. Sources said that a tender for purchasing these equipments has been floated. “The Thunderbolt commando team has completed their training and the department has decided to equip them with all kinds of modern gear. The commando kit would be similar to that of the National Security Guards. The equipment kit comprises splash lights, thermal heat detectors, binoculars, reflex sights and wireless sets,” sources said.
The team has been trained for conducting operations in all weather conditions. They have undergone training at Army’s Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School, Mizoram.
