Amid all the protests over the Western Ghats reports, there is a unique initiative to create awareness on these reports.

The Kerala Sasthra Sahitya Parishath (KSSP) and the Malayalam wiki community have posted the Malayalam version of Madhav Gadgil panel (Western Ghats Ecology Expert Panel) report online.

While a lot of discussions are going on about the reports and the Kerala Government opposing the same, WGEEP head Madhav Gadgil had suggested that the state government should first make Malayalam version of the report available before the local bodies and collect their opinion on the same. “Let the local bodies discuss the report and then come up with their opinion on the same,” he had said.

Gadgil had also suggested that the state government should take the final call on the WGEEP report based these opinions from local bodies.

The Malayalam version of the WGEEP report is available at http://kssp.in/content/gadgil_report and at Wikisource. A detailed analysis on the report has also been posted on the Internet. With the Malayalam version of Gadgil report available online, there are demands for the translated version of Kasturirangan report also.

“With protests mounting from various corners over the Kasturirangan report, it is essential that the translated version of the same be made available online. Only if people go through the report, they will be able to determine whether the recommendations are beneficial or not,” said Ashok S of Free Software Community.
