Water scarcity continues at Nilackal

Water scarcity continued for the second day on Monday at the Nilackal pilgrim transit camp, with thousands of pilgrims struggling to get water even for meeting their primary needs.

The absence of potable water in public taps, closure of toilets owing to water scarcity and failure of the Kerala Water Authority to supply water through tanker lorries have put the pilgrims in deep crisis. In addition, the hotels at Nilackal are in the construction stage owing to the late auctioning by the Devaswom authorities. As a result, potable water was out of reach for pilgrims throughout the day.

Meanwhile, the vendors on the roadside are taking advantage of the situation by levying upto double the rate of bottled water.
