Controversial businessman M K Kuruvila, who made several allegations related to the Solar Scam against the office of the Chief Minister, was arrested by the police here on Thursday based on a cheating complaint filed by a person identified as Bineesh.

Bineesh in his complaint had alleged that the Bangalore-based businessman had duped him of  `3.75 lakh in the name of foreign exchange trade. The arrest was made after a Division Bench of the Kerala High Court gave permission for the same. He was later remanded in judicial custody. Kuruvila has been charged under IPC section 420, which is non-bailable, said T R Santhosh, CI of Thrissur East Circle.

Earlier, a Single Bench of the Kerala High Court had asked the state government not to arrest Kuruvila in the cases registered against him after he moved a petition. Kuruvila had claimed that he was made an accused in these cases after he had approached the High Court seeking a Crime Branch probe into the activities of the people close to Chief Minister in connection with the Solar Scam.  However, the order by the Single Bench was later struck down by a Division Bench of the High Court and subsequently upheld by the Supreme Court.

Kuruvila told media persons on Thursday while being taken by the police that the state government is hunting him as he had complained against two persons, one of them who claimed to be a relative of Oommen Chandy and another a member of the CM’s personal staff.

These people, he alleged, had defrauded him of `1 crore by offering to install solar panels. He alleged that all criminal cases against him were hoisted after he had lodged the complaint.
